please post

Hey Everyone - if you stop by, please post a comment! We'd love to hear from you all and if I know that a bunch of people are visiting I'll be inclined to post more often. Thanks! PS: to view today's update in chronological order, scroll down to the post entitled, 'Scary Bear'.

real food

In an historic moment, Tiz has had her first lesson eating from a spoon. This important step toward being able to eat real food has us very excited. She hasn't mastered the art yet, but it's great to see her on her way.

Tiz asked that we give a shout out to her East Coast Posse... you know who you are.

abuelita

Sara Quirk was Kim's business partner years ago when she worked in Glen Ellyn. Sara's originally from Mexico, lived in the states for years, and she's spent the last decade or so living in various outposts abroad, following her husband Mike and his career as a civil engineer. We've always kept in touch and see each other whenever she's in town. We're excited that she's moving back to our area so she'll be able to take up her post as Tiz's Abuelita Mexicana and teach her how to make perfect chiles rellenos and her famous flan.

rite of passage, part deux

Some time ago, Tiz received her first gift from Tiffany & Co. After our lunch at Spiaggia, we wandered down Oak Street and happened by Barney's. Naturally, we had to stop in and peruse the baby section. We're not in the habit of splurging on 'stuff' - saving our disposable income for dining - but we couldn't resist treating our little lady to her first purchase from the classic, New York boutique. It was a pair of footie pajamas in ribbed, brushed cotton with little lions all over. Nice.

the best restaurant in chicago?

Have you been to Spiaggia lately? If not, you've got to get over there. I know what you're thinking... it's so old school... it's not in one of the emerging, hip neighborhoods... it's full of Gold Coast shoppers and tourists. Forget all of that. It's phenomenal. We've gone to the Cafe twice recently - once in February when we spent a romantic weekend in the city sans baby, and again a few weeks ago with Tiz for a Sunday lunch. Meats from the wood-fired oven, amazing pizza, homemade gnocchi that is pillow-tender and every dish more flavorful than the last. And all of that while seated high above Michigan Avenue with a spectacular view of Oak Street Beach and the lake. On each visit we spent about 3 hours there, pacing ourselves through a thorough exploration of the menu and eclectic wine-by-the-glass list. What a great way to spend an afternoon. I can't wait until Tiz is old enough to share in all the tastes and excitement of dining.

Clara

When the composition and lighting are this good, you can rest assured that Kim took the photo. Here is Tiz with her friend Clara, the pink monkey, who rides shotgun at all times.

Cousins

Here is Tiz with her cousins, Sue & JB's kids who live in Delaware, Ohio.

Scary Bear

I'm not making any apologies... we've just been so busy our heads are spinning. Getting this new building project underway has been all-consuming for the last weeks. Anyway, today I will feed your appetites with some tidbits from Tiz's adventures. In this shot we're on our way out for a walk on a bright winter day. When she dons her scary bear outfit, Tiz strikes an unlikely balance of cute-as-a-button ferocity, wouldn't you say?
